The Avengers 2

Joss Whedon gives his most in-depth explanation yet as to why he decided to return as writer and director for the Avengers sequel:

There's a business aspect to it and I would be disingenuous not to say that, but the question for me is, Do I have another story to tell about these people? So we worked on the business side of it and I didn't think it was going to happen — I was like 'I'm never going to do this again.' But once they worked on the business aspect of it I thought that seems fair and cool, so, the question was, Do I have another thing to say? I was in London and I went to a pub and had some fish and chips and a pint and started writing in my notebook. I'm writing if I was going to do this what would I say and 40 minutes later I filled the notebook. So I text my agent and said to make the deal. I'm so in love with that universe and the characters and the way they were played and I have so much more I want to do with them. I know I can't match the success of the first one but I can try to make a better film and that's what I'm excited about, that's the new room of fear I'm entering now.

Now head onto our Guardians of the Galaxy item for an update on both that and The Avengers 2...

Guardians of the Galaxy

So then, the big news is that Jim Starlin, who created Thanos and holds some of the rights to his use, has reportedly revealed that he has signed off on a deal for Thanos to appear in both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2. That's nothing we didn't more or less already know, but it's still good to hear confirmed. [Cosmic Book News]

Beautiful Creatures

Joss Whedon gives the best answer yet as to why he's back for Avengers 2!Here's a poster and short description for the upcoming fantasy romance, which stars Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, Viola Davis, and Emmy Rossum:

Based on the first of a five-novel series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Creatures is set in the South and is about two star-crossed teenage lovers: Ethan (Alder Ehrenreich), a local boy, and a mysterious new girl, Lena (Alice Englert), who uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.

28 Months Later

The logically titled next sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, which original filmmaker Danny Boyle still occasionally talks about making, apparently isn't happening after all. That's according to the first movie's writer Alex Garland — whose Dredd is out this weekend — who says it just isn't going to happen:

I'm still so proud of 28 Days Later and how well it's been received over the years so I appreciate that. But in regards to another movie, no- there are no plans for a 28 Months Later or whatever they were calling it. This is a series I've always been heavily involved with between the original and the sequel so if there were plans for another movie, I would absolutely know about it.

Doctor Who

Here's a sneak peek at this Saturday's episode, "The Power of Three." [Blogtor Who]

And here's a sneak peek for the season premiere, "Broken."

Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis participated in a lightning round of questions where they could only reply "Yes", "No", or "Can't Answer" — unless they felt like going into more detail on a "Yes" answer, I guess. Here are some highlights, and check out the article over at TV Guide for the rest:

Will we learn Charming's (Josh Dallas) real name in Season 2?
Adam Horowitz:
Yes.

Will Emma's favor that she owes Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) come into play in Season 2?
Kitsis and Horowitz:
Hell yes!

Since Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) is coming, is there a chance we'll see Peter Pan or Wendy?
Kitsis:
There is a chance we'll see Peter Pan, Wendy and/or... [dramatic pause] Tinker Bell. I would say that a story like Tinker Bell's deserves its own origin story.

Will Emma get to be a badass with the sword again this season?
Kitsis and Horowitz:
Yes.

Stefan (Paul Wesley) promises Elena that he and Bonnie (Kat Graham) will exhaust every possible way out of the situation, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is furious with his brother for letting Elena die in the first place. Beauty and the Beast

Here's a synopsis for the CW's other new genre show, which features Smallville star Kristin Kreuk's big return to the network, as well as a reasonably handsome man we're supposed to consider beastly for some reason:

A RE-IMAGINING OF THE CLASSIC TALE - When she was a teenager, Catherine "Cat" Chandler (Kristin Kreuk, "Smallville") witnessed the murder of her mother. Cat would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her. Now, years have passed and Cat is a police officer, investigating a case that leads her to the person who saved her: a doctor named Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan, "Terra Nova"). With the help of his childhood friend J.T. Forbes (Austin Basis, "Life Unexpected"), Vincent has been in hiding, guarding his secret - when enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super strength. Still, Cat is touched by the person that lives within the Beast and she knows she has to keep her relationship with Vincent a secret from her boss, Joe Bishop (Brian White, "The Shield"), her partner, Tess Vargas (Nina Lisandrello, "Nurse Jackie"), and even from her close friend, Evan Marks (Max Brown, "The Tudors"), the medical examiner. Cat and Vincent are powerfully drawn to one another, but they understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them.
