Star Wars: Episode VII
Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow is one of the slightly more plausible candidates to direct this thing, insofar as he's actually supposed to have met with people at Lucasfilm. Adding a bit of highly circumstantial fuel to the largely speculative fire are these recently unearthed comments he made on a podcast back in June, in which he spoke about a possible new project he might be working on:
"I can't speak with any specificity as to what the next thing will be. There are amazing opportunities that have arisen as a result of this. One of them, I will say, will probably create a good deal of ire against me on the Internet when people find out what it is. So, I just want to say in advance that I promise you, for all those who love the mythology that I will be tackling, trust that I love it as much as you do. And I will respect it, and hopefully make it not suck."
Oh, and here's a comment he made to a Swedish newspaper, give or take the double translation from English to Swedish and then back to English:
I would not comment much on it, but I'm as much a Star Wars fan like everyone else who grew up with it as one of the most important in their lives. I am deeply aware of how incredibly important it is for billions of people. It really is a mythology, and possibly also a religion for many. I cannot comment on what my involvement would be, but I can definitely say that I would love to direct a Star Wars movie at some point in my life.It would be incredible. I will not be deterred by it. While I understand that every thinking director who cares about the series as much as I do, would be afraid to ruin something. But I also believe that there is a risk that many directors would gladly take, precisely because they care so much about it.
So, there's still no particular reason to think that Trevorrow will get the job, but he does at least seem to want the job, which automatically sets him apart from almost every other director who's been rumored to be connected to the project thus far. [Film School Rejects]
While it seems silly to follow every little report on which actors might or might not be theoretically interested in appearing in a movie that's still at most at the early writing stages, I think we all do definitely want to know whether Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew wants back in. Well, we can all breathe easy on that score:
In my universe, he will be there fighting the empire all the way. I hope the powers that be feel the same.
Harrison Ford recently said he may not be opposed to reprising Han Solo — if he doesn't, do you think there's enough room to keep Chewie going?
Of course I do. Chewie and Yoda go way back...Lastly, I just have to know... has anyone approached you from LucasFilms about reprising the character?
No, but I hope they will. Wookiees, and particularly Chewbacca, are base characters when telling the story of Star Wars. It's important that Chewie remains a part of the story. Everybody loves Chewbacca. I'm sure of it.
Meanwhile, Carrie Fisher's reps have gone ahead and announced that anything Fisher herself says about appearing in Episode VII should just be treated as one big tongue-in-cheek joke — so, very much in keeping with what Fisher has to say about appearing in Episodes IV through VI. [E! Online]
Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Chris Pine explains how Captain Kirk's story continues in the sequel:
"Kirk is fun because he is a brash, cocky, bull-headed kind of guy. I think the journey he goes on in this new film is a lot about – the first one was about getting the chair and the second one is about earning it. And I think that's a big part of his journey."
Pine also confirms that villain Benedict Cumberbatch will be putting to good use all that time on Sherlock spent spouting lengthy, insanely technical monologues:
"I've been so fortunate, Benedict is an incredible talent. He's did some work in the new ‘Trek' that I think will blow people away. There's one scene in it that's like, you know… in all kinds of heavy science fiction there's got to be the exposition scene where it's like, what the hell's going on? It's a really, really, really hard scene. Not for me, for Benedict — and watching him handle that and to make something that I think, on paper, could have been a death trap for an actor and to see how he [deals with it]…
Transformers 4
Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg might be headed to China for the new Transformers movie, with the latest reports indicating a substantial portion of the film will be shot in the country. As with a few other films lately, sources say this decision is aimed at improving the chances of the film gaining a wide release in China, which has quickly become a major source of box office revenue. The plan would be to make the movie a full-fledged co-production between Paramount and a Chinese studio. All of this mostly just raises the all-important question of whether this news increases or decreases the odds that the movie will feature a Transformer that acts like an offensive racial stereotype. I'll just leave that one to you all to ponder. [Vulture]
Evil Dead
Here's a new promo image from the upcoming reboot, which stars Suburgatory's Jane Levy. According to director Fede Alvarez, this image shows Levy's character Mia "seconds before loosing [sic] her tree rape virginity...", in reference to the notorious sequence from the Sam Raimi original. [IGN]
Fright Night 2
The 2011 remake's decent critical reception and terrible box office means a sequel is getting made, but of the direct-to-DVD variety. The movie will now star Warehouse 13 and Dexter's Jaime Murray as a Romanian vampire, alongside returning characters Charlie, Peter Vincent, and Evil Ed. However, those characters won't be played by original actors Anton Yelchin, David Tennant, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Here's the official synopsis:
"When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend "Evil" Ed and ex-girlfriend AMY in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show "Fright Night," to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who's blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire."
And yes, Jaime Murray's vampire is named Gerri, whereas Colin Farrell's vampire in the original was named Jerry. So, uh, yeah, make of this project what you will. [Bloody Disgusting]

Director Ben Affleck discusses one of his ongoing projects, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel:

Costar Laurie Holden discusses the potential reunion between Andrea and the rest of the gang, particularly now that she has fallen in with the Woodbury crowd:
"Rick and the group were her family, but there's a lot of unanswered questions. Did they leave her for dead? Did they come looking for her? Are they still her family?... To say she's put in the middle is the understatement of the year. She's definitely challenged. Andrea's got a good heart. She would not betray the people that she loves under any circumstances. For his part, Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus suggests the group won't be all that quick to welcome Andrea back:

Keegan Connor Tracy discusses her character, the Blue Fairy:
She's kind of like the pope, but like old-school. Remember back in the time when the church, and the popes, and the Vatican, they were really really powerful on the grid, differently powerful, than kings and queens, and I think think this the same thing as the Blue Fairy. They're in sort of a separate category of power. But no one who has power wants to relinquish it, and that is something that as an actor I want to explore, and we'll see what happens now that magic is in the city. And I think the Blue Fairy wants her place in the sun again.
